The UNLV Runnin Rebels surprised everyone last year with there leap into the mecca of college basketball -The Sweet Sixteen. No one saw it coming, I know I didn’t…. after years of failure and sub-par teams. Now expectations have once again been raised but the question remains can those Running Rebels reproduce.
With 4 of last years 5 starts gone the future looks bleak. Those four include : Kevin Kruger and Michael Umeh, forward Wendell White and center Gaston Essengue. That does not include Joel Anthony, who was a stand out defender for UNLV and who really was the heart of the team at one point during the tournament(Side note: recently spoke to Joel and he mentioned that he was trying out for a NBA team. Good luck to him.) So the return of the glory to UNLV is all riding on Wink Adams, the only returning starter. This leaves the question will we be back at the top of college basketball or were we those one hit wonders?
